January 15, 2011 - EDAC 2010 Year End Summary

  • EDAC, a newly formed Hanover Township Committee, held its first meeting on January 22, 2010.  The purpose of the committee is to enhance economic development within Hanover Township. 

  • The EDAC members elected officers, developed a strategic plan, Goals and Objectives and created a Mission Statement. 
  • EDAC members met with Township Department Heads and Committee Chairs to discuss the mission of the committee and to have open discussion on how to best work together to service the business owners.
  • Officers and members determined that the EDAC committee must focus on attracting new business opportunities in addition to retaining existing business.   A Business Retention Plan was developed.
  • A Marketing Plan was created.  EDAC print advertisements were developed in addition to utilizing articles and letters in trace journals and newspapers.
  • Morris County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) & EDAC met early on in the process to begin to forge a relationship and determine how to best work together.
  • In addition to collecting township statistics, a Township Commercial Property Bus Tour was made by all EDAC members to become more familiar with available properties. 
  • The development of a Hanover Township EDAC website was tackled throughout the year.
  • A Concept Review Team (sub-committee) was created to meet with current and prospective businesses.
  • Revitalization - Property recommendations to planning board made for zoning changes to make properties more attractive to developers
  • EDAC presentation kit was created as a marketing tool.  The kit included a letter from Mayor, letter from the EDAC Chairperson, a Hanover Township fact sheet, Property Spec Sheets along with a corresponding map, EDAC DVD and a MCEDC brochure.
  • A Broker Reception was held on July 20, 2010 to showcase Hanover’s available properties and to reinforce the message that “we are open for business.”
  • A Business Incentive sub-committee was formed to obtain a better understanding of state and county incentives for developers/owners. A business retention plan was created and key objectives were beginning to be addressed and will continue into 2011.
  • A Business Retention sub-committee was formed in order to uncover the needs of existing township businesses and begin to research possible state, county and/or municipal incentives.
  • A Business Retention and Expansion Program Reception was held on October 8, 2010.  Current business owners were invited to the reception.
  •  An EDAC Internal Coordinator position was created and filled.  This person is a municipal employee that will serve as the lead contact for development and redevelopments prospects.  This individual will also act as the liaison between developers/owners along with township officials and various construction departments within the municipality.
